On This Day in Space! April 3, 1973: Soviet Union Launches Salyut 2 Space Station

On april three, 1973, the soviet union launched a small space station referred to as salyut 2. This was the second area station ever released and the first navy space station.

The soviet union informed the rest of the sector that salyut 2 turned into a civilian space station built for scientific studies, but it turned into secretly supposed to be a crewed military reconnaissance station. No crews ever made it to salyut 2, even though.

Less than two weeks after it released, its mind-set manage device stopped working, and it started out tumbling round in space. Venture control noticed that strain within the station had dropped for no obvious reason.

They later observed out that a small explosion had came about inside the station's propulsion gadget several days in advance. The damaged station turned into slowly falling aside. Bits and portions of salyut 2 fell lower back to earth and burned up in the ecosystem.
