Sudan braces for military announcement after anti-Bashir protests

Sudan's armed forces will make an crucial assertion soon, kingdom tv said on thursday as troops have been deployed in khartoum amid hypothesis that a coup attempt was underway in opposition to president omar al-bashir after months of protests.

"the militia will present an vital assertion quickly. Be equipped for it," the statement on country television study, with out giving in addition info.

Protesters outdoor the ministry chanted: "it has fallen, we received."

Al arabiya tv pronounced that bashir had resigned and several officers had been arrested, which include the defence minister. But there has been no confirmation.

State television and radio played patriotic song, reminding older sudanese of how military takeovers spread out in the course of preceding episodes of civil unrest.

Bashir, a former paratrooper who seized electricity in a cold coup in 1989, has been a divisive figure who has managed his way through one inner crisis after every other whilst withstanding attempts through the west to weaken him.

Sudan has suffered extended intervals of isolation since 1993, while the usa added bashir's government to its listing of terrorism sponsors for harbouring islamist militants. Washington followed up with sanctions 4 years later.

Bashir has also been indicted via the worldwide criminal court (icc) in the hague over allegations of genocide in sudan'sdarfur place all through an insurgency that started in 2003.

The brand new crisis has escalated since the weekend, when lots of demonstrators started out tenting out outdoor the defence ministry compound in critical khartoum, in which bashir's house is placed.

Clashes erupted on tuesday among infantrymen looking to defend the protesters and intelligence and safety personnel seeking to disperse them. At the least eleven humans died inside the clashes, including six members of the defense force, the statistics minister stated citing a police file.

Considering the fact that dec. 19, sudan has been rocked with the aid of chronic protests sparked by way of the authorities's try to raise the rate of bread, and an financial disaster that has brought about gasoline and cash shortages

Opposition figures have called for the military to help negotiate an quit to bashir's nearly three decades in energy and a transition to democracy.

The demonstrators on the defence ministry had stated that they desired to submit a petition for the armed forces to take their side of their try to do away with bashir and his islamist-subsidized administration.

Police: 2 people dead in home of businessman Irwin Jacobs in Orono

Two people were found dead by authorities in the Lake Minnetonka area home of prominent businessman Irwin Jacobs, according to emergency dispatch audio aired Wednesday morning.

Police in Orono have officers on the scene, 1700 Shoreline Drive, and a department staff member said a statement about the incident was being prepared.

Two people were “found unconscious, possibly DOA [dead on arrival],” the first emergency dispatch disclosed shortly after 8:30 a.m.

The two were in a bed along with a “handgun on the bed as well.”

A statement from the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office issued shortly after 10 a.m. confirmed the deaths of a male and a female. There is no immediate word on identities of the people.

The Sheriff’s Office statement added that “there is no risk to the public.”

“There is no suspect being sought at this time,” said Sheriff’s Office spokesman Edgar Linares.

A news conference is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. at the Orono Police Department headquarters, with Police Chief Correy Forniok and Sheriff Dave Hutchinson attending.

The Hennepin County Crime Lab was called to the scene, as was a hearse, while the ambulance service from North Memorial Health was told it was not needed. Police also informed dispatch that an attorney for Jacobs arrived at the home.

Someone at the home, listed as being owned by Jacobs and wife Alexandra, made the first call to authorities, and that person was “standing by” for questioning by responding officers, the dispatch audio revealed as sirens blared in the background.

Three or four officers were directed to go through the house in search of anyone else who might be there. Other officers stood guard at the front gate.

More than a half-dozen police and sheriff’s vehicles were at the scene, a large, wooded hilltop lot with a commanding view of Lake Minnetonka from the edge of Smiths Bay. Hundreds of yards of police crime scene tape was needed to seal off the sprawling property.

Bob and Carolyn Nelson, who have been Irwin and Alxandria Jacobs’ neighbors since 2003, said they heard nothing unusual at the home.

They said they have been awake since 5 a.m. and didn’t notice any activity. Later, when they returned from the grocery store, they found out about the deaths.

Bob Nelson said Jacobs put the home up for sale several years ago, then took it off the market. He also sold some of the hilltop property for building lots. Several new homes are under construction or have recently been finished.

Jacobs, 77, owned a minority share of the Minnesota Vikings in the 1980s, before selling that share. He also bought the Grain Belt beer company in the mid-1970s, along with its distinctive brewery in northeast Minneapolis, and later sold the beer brand to G. Heileman Brewing Company and the brewery to the city of Minneapolis.

Jacobs made a fortune as a corporate raider who bought and liquidated failing companies at a profit.

For more than 40 years, he has owned J.R. Watkins Co., the Winona-based maker of soaps and other household products that are sold around the country. He owns Jacobs Trading Co. in Hopkins, a retailer specializing in liquidation of merchandise.

He owned boat maker Genmar Holdings Co., which went through a lengthy bankruptcy restructuring earlier this decade.

Earth Sees First Image Of A Black Hole

Earth Sees First Image Of A Black Hole'

The world is seeing the first-ever image of a black hole Wednesday, as an international team of researchers from the Event Horizon Telescope project released their look at the supermassive black hole at the center of galaxy Messier 87 (M87). The image shows a dark disc "outlined by emission from hot gas swirling around it under the influence of strong gravity near its event horizon," the consortium said.

"As an astrophysicist, this is a thrilling day for me," said National Science Foundation Director France A. Córdova.

The enormous black hole is some 55 million light-years from Earth in the Virgo galaxy cluster, with a mass some 6.5 billion times that of our sun.

"We are delighted to be able to report to you today that we have seen what we thought was unseeable. We have seen and taken a picture of a black hole," said EHT Director Shep Doeleman of Harvard University.

Researchers at the Event Horizon Telescope project say they were able to create an image of a black hole by using a network of eight radio telescopes to create "a virtual telescope dish as large as the Earth itself," the National Science Foundation says.

The breakthrough, Doeleman said, came after a decade of work to align the myriad working parts of the project and gain the highest resolution possible from the Earth's surface. Finally, in April of 2017, he said, "all of the dishes in the Event Horizon Telescope swiveled, turned and stared" at the core of M87.

Córdova and Doeleman led a news conference in Washington, D.C., to discuss the team's finding — a process that took place simultaneously on four continents, as researchers held press conferences to share news of what they're calling "a groundbreaking result."

"You have probably seen many, many images of black holes before," said Heino Falcke, a professor in the Netherlands who chairs the EHT Science Council. "But they were all simulations or animations. And this [image] is precious to all of us, because this one is finally real."

National Science Foundation via YouTube

Pointing to the screen at the European Research Council's news conference in Brussels, Falcke said that the much-sought-after image "looks like a ring of fire. And it's actually created by the force of gravity, by the deformation of space-time, where light actually goes around the black hole, almost in a circle."

Describing the image in Washington, Doeleman said, "The bright patch in the south ... tells us that material moving around the black hole is moving at light speeds — which is also consistent with our simulations and predictions" based on Albert Einstein's theories.

As for its broader implications, Doeleman said that by capturing the image of a supermassive black hole at the core of a bright galaxy, "We now know clearly that black holes drive large-scale structure in the universe."

"As with all great discoveries, this is just the beginning," he added, predicting the image would open new avenues for study and research.

The newly imaged black hole is some 100 billion kilometers across. But despite its massive size, anyone trying to find it in the night sky from the Earth's surface would face the same challenge if they stood in Brussels and wanted to see a mustard seed in Washington, Falcke said.

It's well-known that a black hole's gravity is so overpowering that even light cannot escape its center. But black holes also dramatically affect their surrounding space, most obviously by creating an accretion disk — the swirl of gas and material that rapidly orbits their singularities.

"Black holes are the X-games of physics. They represent an unexplored extreme of space-time," as astrophysicist Adam Frank wrote for NPR in 2017. "While we now have good indirect evidence that they exist, getting a direct view of a black hole is the ultimate dream for a lot of physicists."

A breakthrough in black hole detection promises to answer a question that has dogged scientists since Einstein proposed the existence of black holes in his general theory of relativity: How do you document the presence of something that's invisible?

EHT telescopes are arrayed around the world, from Antarctica to Arizona and from Mexico to Spain. Before scientists can analyze data from the network, a painstaking process must take place. Each signal received by the telescopes must be synchronized wave by wave, using atomic clocks and a supercomputer to correlate and combine observations from around the world.

It takes many hours of observations to record enough data to create an image.

"Like a time-lapse exposure, this slowly builds up an image of even a very dim source," the NSF says. "It also allows Earth's rotation to, in effect, fill in the empty spaces in the array to produce a more complete picture."

In a few weeks of observing the black hole, the EHT project amassed 5 petabytes of data, which Dan Marrone of the University of Arizona said was equivalent to 5,000 years' worth of mp3 files — or "the entire selfie collection over a lifetime for 40,000 people."

To find a black hole massive enough to be potentially visible from an Earth-based telescope, Event Horizon researchers focused on "supermassive" black holes that are found at the centers of galaxies. The international collaboration decided to focus on the black hole at the center of galaxy M87 because of its gargantuan size and other characteristics.

"M87 is the nearest galaxy with a supermassive black hole that's generating a powerful jet — a beautiful streamer made of plasma travelling at close to the speed of light," said Charles Gammie, a professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign who is on the EHT Science Council Board.

In a news release about the breakthrough, Gammie said: "One of the great mysteries in astronomy has been how such jets are launched. Our simulations, which are based on the motion of magnetic fields and hot gas near the black hole, showed that the jets are powered by the black hole itself. Magnetic fields act to brake the rotation of the black hole and transfer its rotational energy to the jet."

As they analyzed the image and related data, astronomers also grew increasingly confident with other assumptions they've made based on theories about the workings of the universe.

"Once we were sure we had imaged the shadow, we could compare our observations to extensive computer models that include the physics of warped space, superheated matter and strong magnetic fields. Many of the features of the observed image match our theoretical understanding surprisingly well," said Paul T.P. Ho, EHT board member and director of the East Asian Observatory.

He added, "This makes us confident about the interpretation of our observations, including our estimation of the black hole's mass."

Dolphin clitoris study suggests marine mammals may experience sexual pleasure

Dolphin clitoris study suggests marine mammals may experience sexual pleasure

An in-depth study of the dolphin clitoris has revealed that these marine creatures may belong to a small group of animals that are known to experience sexual pleasure.

Dolphins are known to have sex throughout the year, even at times when they are not capable of conceiving.

In other animals that do this, including humans, sex can be pleasurable for females due in large part to clitoral stimulation.

This led a team of scientists to investigate the genital anatomy of dolphins to determine what enjoyment – if any – the females were getting out of year-round sex.

Dr Dara Orbach of Mount Holyoke College led the research, dissecting and scanning the genitalia of 11 female bottlenose dolphins that had died naturally.

Not only did the animals turn out to have large and well-developed clitorises, anatomically they were remarkably similar to those found in humans.

Scientists noted the skin contained bundles of nerves that may increase sensitivity and potential for pleasure in the animals.

“Our anatomical observations suggest the clitoris is functional in bottlenose dolphins, but further research, including physiological and behavioural analyses, are necessary to test if sexual experiences can be pleasurable for female dolphins,” said Dr Orbach.

She noted that dolphin anatomy was not directly comparable with humans, as the clitoris is positioned at the entrance to the vaginal opening.

“The location of the clitoris near the vaginal opening indicates it can potentially be easily stimulated during copulation,” she said.

Dr Orbach presented her findings at the American Association of Anatomists annual meeting in Orlando.

It is the latest project she was worked on to understand the mysteries of dolphin sex lives. In 2017 she published research detailing how folds in dolphin vaginas can function as barriers to prevent unwanted males successfully mating with them.

There is still very little known about the female sexual anatomy and behaviour for most wild animals, and Dr Orbach hopes her latest research will help develop this emerging field.

“This research provides a comparative framework to explore other functions of sex that may not be unique to humans,” she explained.

“We are on the precipice of a deeper understanding of the relationship between form and function of genitalia.”

Heart Care tips 10 Ways to keep your Heart Healthy

Best healthy heart care tips

A healthy life-style will make your heart more healthy. Here are 10 things you can do to look after your heart.

Give up smoking

In case you're a smoker, stop! It's the single first-class aspect you could do on your coronary heart fitness.
Smoking is one of the fundamental causes of coronary coronary heart sickness. A 12 months after giving up, your threat of a heart assault falls to about half of that of a smoker.
You are much more likely to stop smoking for excellent in case you use nhs stop smoking offerings. Visit the smoke free internet site or ask your gp for help with quitting

Get active

Getting – and staying – active can reduce your risk of developing heart disease. It can also be a great mood booster and stress buster.

Do 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic activity every week. One way to achieve this target is by doing 30 minutes of activity on 5 days a week. Fit it in where you can, such as by cycling to work.

Manage your weight

Being overweight can increase your risk of heart disease. Stick to a healthy, balanced diet low in fat and sugar, with plenty of fruit and vegetables, combined with regular physical activity.

Eat more fibre

Eat plenty of fibre to help lower your risk of heart disease, aim for at least 30g a day.Eat fibre from a variety of sources, such as wholemeal bread, bran, oats and wholegrain cereals, potatoes with their skins on, and plenty of fruit and veg.

Cut down on saturated fat

Eating too many foods that are high in saturated fat can raise the level of cholesterol in your blood. This increases your risk of heart disease.Choose leaner cuts of meat and lower fat dairy products like 1% fat milk over full-fat (or whole) milk.

Get your 5 A Day

Eat at least 5 portions of a variety of fruit and vegetables a day. They're a good source of fibre, vitamins and minerals. There are lots of tasty ways to get your 5 A Day, like adding chopped fruit to cereal or including vegetables in your pasta sauces and curries.

Cut down on salt

To maintain healthy blood pressure, avoid using salt at the table and try adding less to your cooking.Once you get used to the taste of food without added salt, you can cut it out completely.Watch out for high salt levels in ready-made foods. Most of the salt we eat is already in the foods we buy.
Check the food labels – a food is high in salt if it has more than 1.5g salt (or 0.6g sodium) per 100g.
Adults should eat less than 6g of salt a day in total – that's about 1 teaspoon.

Eat fish

Eat fish at least twice a week, including a portion of oily fish. Fish such as pilchards, sardines and salmon are a source of omega-3 fats, which may help protect against heart disease.Pregnant or breastfeeding women should not have more than 2 portions of oily fish a week.

Drink less alcohol

Do not forget that alcohol contains calories. Regularly drinking more than the NHS recommends can have a noticeable impact on your waistline.Try to keep to the recommended daily alcohol limits to reduce the risk of serious problems with your health, including risks to your heart health.

Read the food label

When shopping, it's a good idea to look at the label on food and drink packaging to see how many calories and how much fat, salt and sugar the product contains.Understanding what's in food and how it fits in with the rest of your diet will help you make healthier choices.

How to make your heart stronger

10 Habits for a Stronger Heart

The smartest plan for attacking a heart attack is, of course, preventing one from ever happening. Choose three of the following strategies and make them a habit. The closer to the top, the more you reduce your risk of heart disease.

  • 1. Convince Your Wife to Stop Smoking
    • Nonsmoking husbands of smoking wives face a 92 percent increase in their risk of heart attack. Breathing secondhand smoke boosts bad cholesterol levels, decreases good cholesterol, and increases your blood's tendency to clot.
  • 2. Work Out for 30 Minutes, Four Times a Week
    • Middle-aged men who exercise vigorously for 2 or more hours cumulatively per week have 60 percent less risk of heart attack than inactive men do.
  • 3. Lose 10 to 20 Pounds
    • If you're overweight, dropping 10 to 20 pounds lowers your risk of dying from a heart attack. A 10-year study found that overweight people had heart attacks 8.2 years earlier than normal-weight victims.
  • 4. Drink Five Glasses of Water a Day
    • Men who drink that many 8-ounce glasses are 54 percent less likely to have a fatal heart attack than those who drink two or fewer. Researchers say the water dilutes the blood, making it less likely to clot.
  • 5. Switch from Coffee to Tea
    • A recent study found that people who drink three cups of tea a day have half the risk of heart attack of those who don't drink tea at all. Potent antioxidants, called flavonoids, provide a protective effect.
  • 6. Eat Salmon on Saturday, Tuna on Tuesday
    • Researchers at the Harvard School of Public Health say that eating fish at least twice a week lowers heart-disease risk by more than 30 percent. The magic ingredient is the omega-3 fatty acids.
  • 7. Ask Your Doctor About Vitamin E and Aspirin
    • Men who take both cut the plaque in clogged arteries by more than 80 percent, according to a recent University of Pennsylvania study.
  • 8. Eat a Cup of Total Corn Flakes for Breakfast
    • This cereal contains one of the highest concentrations of folate (675 micrograms) of any cereal. Taking in that much folic acid daily cuts your risk of cardiovascular diseaseby 13 percent, according to researchers.
  • 9. Count to 10
    • Creating a 10-second buffer before reacting to a stressful situation may be enough to cool you down. Men who respond with anger are three times more likely to have heart disease and five times more likely to have a heart attack before turning 55.
  • 10. Eat Watermelon
    • It contains about 40 percent more lycopene than is found in raw tomatoes, and a new study shows that your body absorbs it at higher levels due to the melon's high water content. Half a wedge can boost heart-disease prevention by 30 percent.

Tips for Improving Heart Health Naturally

For most of us, preventing heart disease depends largely on our lifestyle, which means there’s much that's in our power to improve our odds of living long and well. Here are 9 key steps for improving heart health naturally. Healthy changes in the way we live, particularly diet and exercise, have been proven to:

  • Dramatically reduce heart disease risk factors
  • Stabilize plaques in the arteries so they are less likely to burst and trigger blood clots that block blood flow, causing heart attacks
  • Reverse the progression of coronary artery disease, or atherosclerosis

#1 Spend Less Time Sitting and More Time Moving

In hundreds of studies, regular exercise has been proven to have profound – and numerous health benefits. States the Centers for Disease Control: “Regular physical activity is one of the most important things you can do for your health.”It can help:

  • Control weight
  • Decrease risk of heart disease
  • Improve body composition (your fat-to-muscle ratio)
  • Lower blood sugar and reduce risk of type 2 diabetes and the metabolic syndrome
  • Lower blood pressure and reduce risk of hypertension
  • Reduce risk of some cancers
  • Strengthen bones
  • Reduce stress
  • Improve sleep
  • Improve your ability to perform daily activities and prevent falls
  • Increase your chances of living longer

3 Key Types of Exercise

The My Heart Cares recommends a combination of all 3 plus additional steps throughout the day as part of your activities of daily living.

  • Aerobic (cardiorespiratory)
    • Daily, a minimum of 30 minutes and optimally 60 to 90 minutes, alternating moderate-intensity days with vigorous-intensity days
  • Resistance (strengthening)
    • Full-body resistance routine 2 to 3 times weekly
  • Flexibility (stretching)
    • Stretching exercises daily to enhance overall flexibility and ability to exercise more freely

#2 Lose Excess Body Fat, Particularly Belly Fat

As our body weight rises, so does our risk for plaque build-up in our arteries and a heart attack.Being overweight is linked with several major risk factors for heart disease, including high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, and bad forms of cholesterol.
Obesity also can lead to heart failure, a very serious condition in which the heart is incapable of pumping enough blood to meet the body’s needs.

Fat cells in the belly also produce chemicals, including steroid hormones, which make you more likely to gain fat. Yes, it’s a vicious cycle. The more belly fat you have, the more fat-storage hormones you produce, and the harder it is to lose weight.

There are more hormonal horrors. When belly fat reaches abdominal obesity levels (a waist greater than 35 inches in women and 40 inches in men), another very important fat-storage hormone called insulin is often negatively affected, creating more problems for our metabolism.

Optimal Way To Shed Fat

  • The optimal way to shed fat, including belly fat, and keep it off is with a healthy eating and exercise program.
  • With the healthy Eating Plan, you’re focusing on foods like whole fruits, vegetables, water-rich whole grains, and beans that naturally keep daily calorie intake low. You’re achieving satiety, or fullness, without going overboard on calories.3 | Lower Non-HDL Cholesterol

For years, we in the medical community taught that lowering LDL (often called the “bad” cholesterol) was the primary treatment target for reducing cardiovascular events. And certainly, improving LDL is still very important.

But there is now growing consensus that non-HDL cholesterol is a better predictor of cardiovascular disease risk because non-HDL contains not only LDL but other “bad” particles that contribute to the build-up of cholesterol-filled plaques in the artery wall.

#4 Stop Smoking and Start Living

Did you know that in the U.S. alone, tobacco kills the equivalent of three jumbo jets full of people crashing every day, with no survivors. Here is a sampling of the serious, life-threatening conditions that are the direct result of smoking:

  • Heart disease
  • Breathing problems
  • Lung cancer
  • Kidney cancer
  • Emphysema

Moreover, the science is strong and consistent that when you smoke, the people around you, especially children, are at risk for developing serious health problems

#5 Lower Your Resting Blood Pressure To Below 120/80

It is vital to keep your blood pressure under control because the higher your blood pressure, the greater your risks of heart attack, stroke, congestive heart failure, kidney disease, impotence, loss of mental function, and dementia.

What’s more, dramatic increases in heart attack and stroke risk do not begin with readings of 140/90, the numbers that used to define high blood pressure. We now know that serious, life-threatening risks begin at much lower readings like 130/80. That’s why newly published U.S. guidelines state that high blood pressure is now defined as 130 and higher for systolic blood pressure (the top number), or 80 and higher for diastolic blood pressure (the bottom number).

Key guidelines for lowering blood pressure naturally include:

  • Eat at least 5 servings of vegetables and 4 servings of fruits daily
    • A vegetable- and fruit-rich eating plan helps ensure that you’re eating plenty of foods full of stomach-filling volume, yet low in calories, enhancing your weight-loss efforts. Losing excess weight is one of the most effective ways to lower blood pressure. Eating a lot of fruits and vegetables also means you’re eating rich sources of potassium, magnesium, and calcium. Many studies have found that foods abundant in these minerals help blunt some of the toxic effects of sodium.
  • Cut back on calorie-dense foods loaded with fat, sugar, and/or refined grains
  •           Doing so will also enhance your weight-loss efforts.
  • Limit consumption of sodium to a healthy level
    • The physicians and other faculty at Pritikin agree with sodium guidelines established by the Centers for Disease Control and American Heart Association. Both recommend an ideal limit of no more than 1,500 milligrams of sodium per day for most adults.
  • Limiting salt intake really works,
    • Especially for those most in need. Many studies have shown that the higher blood pressure is and the more salt is restricted, the greater the fall in blood pressure.
  • Limit alcohol drinking
    • Excess alcohol drinking (more than 3 drinks daily) has been shown to increase the risk of hypertension.
  • Exercise daily
    • Daily physical activity promotes loss of excess weight, vital for controlling blood pressure. It also stimulates the body’s production of beneficial chemicals like nitric oxide that expand blood vessels and increase blood flow.

#6 Prevent or Control Diabetes

Preventing or controlling diabetes could save your heart – and life. Heart attacks occur two to four times more often in people with diabetes compared to non-diabetics. Strokes occur two to four times more often.

Other conditions, many life-crippling, caused by diabetes include blindness, kidney failure, peripheral artery disease (blockages in the major arteries that feed the legs), erectile dysfunction, diabetic neuropathy (burning pain and loss of feeling in the feet and hands), poor wound healing, gangrene, and amputations.

The sad news is that many countries worldwide are now suffering epidemic rates of type 2 diabetes because many people live in food toxic and sedentary environments.

The hopeful news is that since diabetes is largely a lifestyle-related disease, there is much we can do in the way of lifestyle changes to prevent the onset of this horrible, life-robbing disease.

A Strong Heart = A Healthy Heart

It’s no secret that a regular exercise program is a great way to make your body look good, feel good and move better, but it’s also an ideal way to take care of your body’s most important muscle – your heart! Strengthen your heart to gain a better quality of life!

The human heart is an amazing piece of equipment, capable of pumping about five quarts of blood throughout the body EVERY minute – that’s around 2,000 gallons of blood each day! On top of that, the average heart beats about 100,000 times each day, making it easy to understand why a strong, healthy heart is so important.

While you can exercise to build strength in your skeletal muscles, many people don’t realize how a proper exercise routine can also help your heart become stronger, healthier and more efficient at doing its job.
Tips to strengthen your your heart

How A Healthy Heart Can Dramatically Increase Your Quality Of Life

Despite all of the positive benefits that we know about regular exercise, according to the American Heart Association nearly 70% of Americans don’t get enough. In turn, inactivity and a lack of exercise is one of the major risk factors for developing coronary artery disease (CAD). CAD is caused by deposits of fatty substances, cholesterol, calcium and other substances in the inner lining of the arteries that supply blood to the heart. This build up eventually makes the arteries more narrow or even blocked, preventing the oxygen-rich blood from reaching the heart. Over time, CAD will weaken the heart muscle and ultimately result in chest pain, a heart attack, or heart failure.

While CAD is the most common type of heart disease and the leading cause of death in the United States for both men and women, it’s also very preventable through lifestyle changes like exercise and diet.Just Making Exercise A Regular Part Of Your Lifestyle Can Result In:

  • Strengthened heart and cardiovascular system
  • Improved circulation/oxygen use
  • Increased energy levels
  • Increased endurance
  • Lower blood pressure
  • Reduced stress
  • Improved muscle tone and strength
  • Improved balance and joint flexibility
  • Stronger bones
  • Healthy body weight
  • Improved sleep
  • Increased self-esteem

The 5 Best Activities For Strengthening Your Heart

Ideally you should aim for a well-rounded fitness program that incorporates a wide variety of exercises. Without variety, the body has an amazing way of adapting to movement. As a general rule, when something becomes easy to complete, you’ll want to increase the intensity or progress to more advanced exercises to keep it challenging. I highly suggest a program that incorporates the following:

1. Interval Training
This is when you alternate short bursts of higher intensity exercises with a low-intensity recovery period. Intervals can be incorporated into a wide variety of ways….walking, running, biking, rowing, treadmills, weights, etc.

2. Strength Training
Aim for a total body strength routine using your bodyweight, resistance bands, free-weights or any combination of the three.

3. Avoid Long Periods of Sitting
Recent studies clearly show that even the fittest of people are negatively affected by sitting for long periods of time. You need to move all day long, even in non-exercise activities. Set a timer to go off every 10-15 minutes as a reminder to get up and move around for a minute or two.

4. Focus on Your Core
The core muscles (consisting of approximately 25+ muscles throughout your back, abdomen and pelvis) provide the foundation for movement throughout the entire body. Keeping them strong and functioning properly will allow you to move the way your body was meant to and prevent debilitating back injuries that could prevent you from being able to exercise.

5. Flexibility/Mobility
Keeping the muscles and joints of the body flexible and mobile will help prevent injuries and aid in the body’s ability to move and function properly.
Don’t Forget About Your Diet For Heart Health

Equally important is a diet that focuses on heart healthy food. One thing we continually stress to our training clients is that you cannot out-train a bad diet. Just because you work out, that does not give you a free pass to eat and/or drink whatever you want. Exercise and nutrition go hand-in-hand and doing your best to adhere to a regular routine with both will go a long way in keeping your body heart-healthy.

Here Are A Few Dietary Guidelines To Strengthen Your Heart:

1. Go easy on the sodium
Too much sodium greatly increases your chances of heart disease, stroke and other health problems. The average American eats more than double the daily recommended daily allowance of sodium – most of which comes from processed foods. Learn to read food labels and choose items that are low in sodium.

2. Eat fruits and vegetables
Fruits and vegetables are loaded with vitamins, minerals and other heart-healthy nutrients. Fresh, frozen, dried, canned, salads, juices…there are a ton of ways to get them, so no excuses!

3. Know your good fats from bad fats
Learn how to substitute good fats (mono and polyunsaturated fats) for bad fats (saturated and trans fats). For example, try canola oil or olive oil instead of butter. Choose lean meats, poultry without skin and fish instead of fattier cuts of meats.

4. Stay home
Preparing your own meals is a great way to assure you know what’s going into what you eat and also allows you to better control portion sizes.

In Summary, A Stronger Heart Is Possible!

Top 10 Natural Foods That Unclog Arteries

Keeping your heart healthy

The number one killer in the United States is heart disease: According to the CDC, 610,000 people die from it every year—that is about one out of every four deaths. The cause is clogged arteries, and things like calcium, plaque, and fatty acids can do the damage. “There is no one magic food that acts like Drano and cleans out the accumulated plaque,” says Florian Rader, MD, a cardiologist at the Smidt Heart Institute at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. “But good habits can help slow down that process, and maintaining a healthy weight and diet is one factor you can control to a great degree. Top 10 Natural Foods That Unclog Arteries

The arteries consist of blood vessels that deliver nutrients and oxygen from the heart to the rest of the organs. If the arteries are clogged, however, the condition could lead to major cardiovascular diseases. Thus, it’s important to keep your blood vessels clean and unclog arteries healthy through proper diet, regular exercise, and a good lifestyle before it becomes a major problem. If you’re looking for tips on how to unclog arteries naturally with food, take a look at some recommendations below.

“With a healthy diet and only moderate weight loss and reduction in blood pressure, you can see regression of plaque that naturally progresses over the years.” – Iris Shai

An apple is one of the foods that unclog arteries naturally. Scientists from the Ohio State University discovered that apples can prevent plaque buildup in the arteries. The experts said that eating one apple daily for at least four weeks can reduce bad cholesterol by as much as 40 percent. This fruit contains polyphenols or antioxidants that prevent bad cholesterol or low-density lipoprotein (LDL) from oxidizing. Toxins that oxidize in the blood vessels harden the arteries.

Fish with fatty meat – such as mackerel, salmon, sardines, and tuna – contain healthy fats that can unclog arteries. These healthy fats are also known as omega-3 fatty acids, which work to reduce inflammation in the blood vessels, as well as prevent blood clots and high blood pressure. The American Heart Association (AHA) suggests eating baked or grilled meaty fish at least twice a week to lessen plaque buildup in the arteries.

Avocado is one of the foods that unclog arteries naturally. Experts recommend replacing butter, creams, mayonnaise, and salad dressing in your food with just one ingredient: the avocado. A study published in the U.S. National Institutes of Health indicated that daily consumption of avocado can decrease bad cholesterol by 11 to 22 percent. An average serving of avocado also contains lots of fiber, protein, and vitamins that benefit the heart.

Broccoli is loaded with vitamin K that works against blood clotting, according to natural medicine expert Joe Pizzorno. This vegetable is also rich in fiber that helps lower blood pressure. Broccoli also reduces the stress that plaque build-up and LDL might cause in the arterial wall, thus this veggie helps keep your heart healthy and your arteries clear.

While there are studies that indicate too much coffee intake can be bad for health, researchers at the University of Western Australia learned there are also positive effects. If you drink eight to 16 ounces of coffee daily, you may actually unclog arteries and reduce heart disease risk by 20 percent. Coffee is one of the best sources of antioxidants, as it has high chlorogenic acid content that prevents heart problems from developing. Just make sure, however, to drink in moderation to minimize the side effects of too much caffeine.

#6. NUTS

Snacking on almonds and walnuts is healthy for the heart. These nuts are rich in alpha-linoleic acid (ALA), vitamin E, monounsaturated fats, protein, and fiber. Nuts can also reduce the inflammation in the blood vessels, which helps clear the arteries naturally.

Spinach is one of the foods that unclog arteries naturally. Eating a serving of spinach a day can reduce the homocysteine levels in the body, which has been linked to heart diseases like atherosclerosis or clogged arteries, according to Circulation, the AHA journal. Add spinach to your salads, soups, and sandwich, or prepare it with lemon and apples for a delicious smoothie.

This fruit is packed with L-citrulline, an amino acid that helps unclog arteries. Watermelon is also a rich natural source of nitric oxide, which the heart needs for lowered blood pressure and clearer blood vessels. Enjoy watermelon as a dessert or drink or include this fruit as a salad or salsa ingredient for a flavorful but healthy meal.

Like apples, oranges and other citrus fruits contain pectin that clears the arteries. Pectin is a type of fiber that also reduces bad cholesterol in the body, according to Harvard Medical School. So, instead of snacking on junk food, eat citrus fruits to prevent cholesterol build-up. Oranges also boost the immune system that improves your body’s ability to fight off infections and diseases.

Asparagus is one of the healthiest foods that unclog arteries naturally. It’s packed with vitamins B1, B2, C, E, K, fiber, and minerals. This vegetable also boosts the production of glutathione that lessens toxic substances from oxidizing in the arteries. Asparagus has alpha-linoleic acid and folic acid too, which minimizes the hardening of blood vessels.

So, if you’re looking for how to clear arteries, remember that eating the right kinds of food can be the most efficient way to clear arteries naturally. However, other than adding these recommended heart-smart foods in your regular diet, also try to lessen your intake of sugar and saturated fats. These ingredients are just some of the main culprits that increase bad cholesterol. Along with positive thinking, be consistent, committed and disciplined in your diet. Removing plaque build-up naturally can take some time. However, taking this step can be the best thing you do for your body and health.
